March News

News From Room 3
Friday, March 8th
Dr. Seuss is in the house, or should I say, the classroom :)  We are reading Dr. Seuss books, working on making word families and exploring his fun interactive web site.  The month of March is “I Love to Read” month. We are going to spend even MORE time reading in kindergarten.
I realize that we have a classroom full of amazing readers!  I am so proud of the great job your children are doing and as always, thank you for supporting the reading program at home.  Here are some suggestions for you to do with your child after they read to you. First, have them re-tell you the story; have them start at the beginning and encourage your child to include as many details as possible. Next, see if they can make a connection to themselves from what they read.  For example, if the book is about fishing with grandpa, you can ask them to remember a time they did something with a grandparent. Lastly, encourage your child to read their book more than once. Tell them to pretend they are the teacher and reading to an audience. This will help them with fluency and voice expression.
We are working on Informational writing. We will write many “All About” books.  We will incorporate informational texts into our study.
We are looking forward to our Maple Sugaring trip on Friday, March 29th. A permission slip is in the green folder.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions!

Best,

Courtney
